- Controls to better manage greenhouse temperature and humidity levels
- Insulation and other measures to reduce air leaks
- Air curtains and retractable curtains to keep sunlight and inside treated air in and outside air out
- Infrared heaters for direct controlled heating
- Maintenance of heating equipment to optimize overall performance and longevity of equipment
- Destratification and/or horizontal air flow fans to maximize efficiency and circulation of treated air and humidity
- Measures to improve efficiency of ventilation systems and minimize loss of treated air
- Replacement of outdated energy efficiency measures
Equipment & Process Optimization

Commercial Savings by Design
Commercial Savings by Design
The Savings by Design program was developed to help builders improve energy and environmental performance in new construction projects. The program is available to Ontario builders in the Enbridge Gas franchise area. There’s no cost to participate. Smaller projects can now qualify – the minimum threshold is now 50,000sq.
Application is available using the link in the title.
Enbridge Retrofit Incentives
Enbridge Retrofit Incentives
Enbridge is offering $0.10 per m3 of gas saved, up to $100,000, for implementing any number of energy-saving measures. These one-time incentives are calculated based on your projected first year’s natural gas savings and will be remitted upon project completion.
EnerSource Audit Funding
EnerSource Audit Funding
SaveONenergy is offering up to 50% of the cost of an energy audit.
- Detailed Analysis for Capital Projects: (for buildings greater than 50,000 ft2) $0.05 / ft2 up to $10,000 or 50% of the audit costs
High Performance New Construction
High Performance New Construction
SaveONenergy is offering the following incentives for companies constructing new buildings or undergoing major renovations.
- 100% of the cost of modelling a building (required for projects following the custom track), up to $10,000
- Custom track: (for building owners)
- the greater of $400/kw saved or $0.05/kWh of energy saved for achieving up to 25% above Code;
- the greater of $600/kw saved or $0.075/kWh of energy saved for achieving 25-50% above Code;
- the greater of $800/kw saved or $0.10/kWh of energy saved for achieving 50% or above Code.
- Custom track: (for decision-makers)
- the greater of $50/kw saved or $0.000625/kWh of energy saved for achieving up to 25% above Code;
- the greater of $100/kw saved or $0.0125/kWh of energy saved for achieving 25-50% above Code;
- the greater of $150/kw saved or $0.1875/kWh of energy saved for achieving 50% or above Code.
The Building must comply with 2012 Ontario Building Code, and must be designed and built to an energy performance level exceeding the minimum required by Code.
Retrofit Program
Retrofit Program
SaveONenergy is offering the following incentives under the Engineered and Custom Tracks for building retrofits.
- Non-lighting projects: Greater of either $800/kw or $0.10/kWh of first year electricity savings
- Social housing: Advance of 50% of the eligible incentive funding before project starts and after project approval by your local electric utility; gap grant funding to top up eligible financial incentive to 50% of project cost.
The project must have an estimated demand reduction of 1 kW or first-year annual energy savings of 2,000 kWh. Projects must deliver energy savings for at least 48 months.
Toronto Hydro Retrofit Program
Toronto Hydro Retrofit Program
The Government of Ontario has made changes to the conservation programs in Ontario and directed the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to centrally deliver energy-efficiency programs until December 31, 2020. Ontario businesses will continue to have access to incentives for retrofits and other energy-efficiency projects to help lower their energy costs.
Have a project underway?
If you already have pre-approval for Save on Energy applications, you still have until December 31, 2020 to complete your project through Toronto Hydro*.
*Please note: If you have pre-approval for Audit Funding, you will have until December 31, 2019 to complete your project.

High-Rise Retrofit Improvement Support Program (Hi-RIS)
High-Rise Retrofit Improvement Support Program (Hi-RIS)
The City of Toronto offers on-bill financing for energy and water improvements to high-rise buildings with 5 or more floors. The loan is calculated as the sum of 3 parts:
- Funding amount: final project costs for improvements
- Cost of borrowing:
- 5-year amortization at 3.7%
- 10-year amortization at 4.1%
- 15-year amortization at 4.3%
- 20-year amortization at 4.4%
- Administrative charge: a charge that reflects the City’s cost of administering the program
The loan will be attached to the property, not the owner, for an agreed term. The maximum funding amount can not exceed 5% of the property’s current value assessment (CVA).
Toronto Atmospheric Fund Green Condo Loan
Toronto Atmospheric Fund Green Condo Loan
The City of Toronto offers a financing program for new construction.
The loan becomes the responsibility of the condo corporation rather than the builder.
