The province of Manitoba announced on May 14, 2015 that changes to the Province’s Building Code have been approved, which will result in improved energy efficiency standards for new homes. Changes include new insulation requirements for above-ground wall assemblies, improved testing for the structure’s air tightness, and a requirement for a drain-water-heat-recovery (DWHR) system. However the Building Standards Board has recommended the maintenance of the requirements for gas furnaces with at least a 94% efficiency rating and for the installation of heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) in all new homes.
The changes will come into effect April 1, 2016.
